A metamorphic conglomerate is a complex form of rock. The mineral, chemical and structural composition of the original rock, while solid, changed due to pressure. The conglomerate consists of three parts: a core, detachment faults, and sediment. The ancient Kata rocks were expose to the earth’s surface 1.8-2.5 billion years ago. It is the oldest rock stratum and the only metamorphic conglomerate that has surfaced in southeast China, an area covering 700,000 km². It is recorded in Chinese Stratum Records. Inscriptions from different dynasties are carved on the rocks. They perfectly combine ancient geological history with ancient culture.
