From 22 to 24 October, 2021, the commemoration of the Centennial of Li Siguang's Discovery of Glacier Relics in Eastern China and the Second Symposium on Glaciers in Eastern China was held in Lushan UGGp.

The conference is organized by Jiangxi Provincial Geological Society, hosted by Lushan UGGp Committee, co-organized by Jiangxi Geological Bureau’s Third Geo-survey Company , Shandong Compass Mineral Exploration Limited Company. More than 40 experts and scholars from the government, universities and research institutes attended the conference. They came from Department of Natural Resources of Jiangxi Province, Jiangxi Provincial Geological Society, Mineral Resources Guarantee Service Center of Jiangxi Province, Jiangxi Geological Bureau, Jiangxi Geological Bureau’s Geo-hazard Prevention and Control Department, Jiangxi Geological Bureau’s Third Geo-survey Company, Jiujiang Natural Resources Bureau, the Institute of Oceanology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing Institute of Paleontology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, the First Institute and the Fourth Institute of Oceanography of Ministry of Natural Resources, Central China Normal University, China University of Petroleum, East China University of Technology and geo-survey institutes of Jiangxi, Henan, Shandong provinces .

Experts delivered thematic speeches at the conference, such as New Development in the Glacier Research in Jiangxi’s Lushan and East China, Characteristics of Lushan’s Yangjiaoling Ridge Deposit, Research on the Environment of the Last Glacial Period in Southeast China and Mr. LI Sihuang in Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Formation Mechanism of Main Geo-site in Zhaomiao Temple, Chifeng, Research on The Third Ice Sheet of the Northern Hemisphere. Experts and scholars visited Lushan UGGp’s representative glacial relics, including Da Ao Cirque, Wang Jia Po Glacial U-Valley. They also stopped by some landform that attracted much controversy and discussions over the years, such as Xi Gu Glacial Table and Baihedong Middle Moraine. All the discussions and activities have played an active role in the promotion of the Quaternary Glaciers Research in China.

In recent decades, a large number of geologists have joined in the research of quaternary glaciers in eastern China, leading to significant progress in the research of the Quaternary glaciers in Mt. Lushan of Jiangxi Province. An example was the lecture given by SHU Junwu from Nanjing Institute of Paleontology of Chinese Academy of Sciences at this conference. His paper presented a new perspective on Lushan Glacier research. It reconstructed paleoclimate changes of the Last Quaternary Glacial Maximum based on an analysis on paleo-palynology.

“Lushan UGGp Quaternary Glaciation Exploration” was inscribed as one of 14 Special Geo-study Tour Routes by Geological Society of China. The Second Symposium on Glaciers in Eastern China held in Lushan UGGp was an effective promotion of the Geo-study Tour route. It also paved the way for Lushan UGGp to become an ideal place for students to learn the knowledge of glacier and embody the scientific spirit of LI Siguang.
