The Huangshan Global Geopark is located in Huangshan City, Anhui Province, covering an area of 173.43 km2. It is primarily characterized by granite peak forest landforms, with other geological features such as unique shaped rocks, water landscapes, rare flora and fauna, providing rich ecological resources.
Huangshan is renowned for its towering peaks and majestic, strange formations, with 72 peaks rising above 1,000 meters. The three main peaks are: Lotus Peak, with an elevation of 1,864 meters, the highest in East China; the Bright Summit, at 1,840.4 meters; and Tiandu Peak, at 1,810 meters. The mountain extends radially from its central area, forming numerous “U”-shaped and “V”-shaped valleys. Granite stone forests and columns are widely distributed on the mountaintops, slopes, and valleys. In areas like Limaqiao, Tiandu Peak, and Beihai, some scholars believe there are Quaternary glacial relics. The existence of glaciers in Huangshan has been debated for more than half a century, and scientists are still working to uncover the final answer.
