On November 13, 2019, the sister geopark cooperation signing ceremony between Lushan UNESCO Global Geopark and Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark, Hungary and Slovakia was held at Lushan UGGP Conference Center. On behalf of both geoparks, Dr. Gergely Horváth ( authorized by the co-leaders of Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark) and Mr. Xiong Wei, deputy director of Lushan UNESCO Global Geopark Administrative Committee signed the sister geopark agreement. Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark is the 14th sister geopark of Lushan UNESCO Global Geopark. The new cooperation will promote the international communication and cooperation among GGN as well as the conservation and management of Chinese global geopark.
Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark became a member of Global Geopark Network in 2010. She is the first geopark of Hungary and Slovakia and the first global geopark that spread over borders in the world. Lushan UNESCO Global Geopark and Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark will have international cooperation on sharing the experiences on conserving the geological remains, promoting geoscience popularization and cultural and geotourism development, and mutual publicity of the two geoparks.
