Besides the birthplace of the hypothesis of Quaternary glaciations in China, the Lushan Mountain area has also good exposures of volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. This geopark has a high biodiversity, there are more than 2000 species of both plants and insects. The land, water and air communications are very convenient, added by its numerable resources, the Mount Lushan Geopark has become an important basis for scientific teaching and research.

Many scientists from different countries have visited the Lushan Mountain for studying the Quaternary glaciers, crust development history, crust movement dynamics, paleoenviromental shift, botanical taxonomy, plant chemistry, materia medica, migratory birds, natural protection, mountain flowers, cloud microphysics, mountain climate and health. Students from about 20~30 universities and colleges visit the Lushan Botanical Garden every year. It has been appointed as one of the National Scientific Popularization Bases for Youngsters by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and other organizations.
