About 126 B. C., the great historian, Sima Qian of Han Dynasty, visited the Lushan Mountain, he wrote as "while climbed up on the top of the Lushan Mountain, I could look down to the Jiujiang rivers" in his "Records of the Historian". This is the first person who recorded the Lushan Mountain in printings. This might be the beginning of Lushan Mountain's tourism.

The Chinese nation has a tradition that people worship nature, are deeply in love for the beautiful mountain and river. Since the opening of Guling Ridge in 1895, the Lushan Mountain has become a world-famous summer escort.
After the found of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the tourism has become a key part of the Lushan Mountain. The performance of a popular film " Love in Lushan Mountain" in 1980s set of a heat tourism to the Lushan Mountain. In the year of 2000, the Lushan Mountain was approved by the State as one of the first batch of national geoparks and the AAAA-grade scenic spots in China. The tourists have been increasing from then on, a total of about 1.275 million visitors visited the Lushan Mountain in 2002.
