Rinjani-Lombok was designated as UGGp in 2018, it is situated on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. Its area is 2850 km2 and encompasses five districts (Lombok Utara, Lombok Timur, Lombok Tengah, Lombok Barat & Mataram City) on the island. Lombok itself is a volcanic island developed due to the subduction of the Indo-Australian Plate under the Eurasian Plate. In the geopark area, quaternary volcanoes are categorized into old and young volcanic complexes.  Mount Rinjani presently holds the young volcanic complex. In 1257, Old Rinjani (known by Samalas in local manuscript) erupted and formed a huge caldera that by time filled by meteoric and hydrothermal water and formed Segara Anak Lakes. The eruption in the 13th Century changed the entire landscape of Lombok Island, buried the old civilization and created a new stage of cultural era.
